Grandma's Apple Pie

This was our first time taking food pictures. We hope to get better.

This fall we went to an apple orchird and picked apples to make a pie. I remember as a child going with my dad and grandpa to pick apples. It was a lot of fun and I wanted to do it with H. The place we went to was done very well. They had goats, bunnies, and chickens as well as apple brats. Our favorite thing was the tractor. We were very excited about our apples and went home to make a pie and homemade applesauce. They were a wonderful treat and a great way to celebrate fall. The best was hearing H say Apple Pie!

Grandma's Apple Pie
Crust
1/2 lb. lard 2 1/2c. flour
2/3c. water 1tsp. salt

Cut pound of lard in 1/2 and place in large bowl and bring to room temperature. Add flour, salt and blend with pastry blender until lard is in lumps the size of small peas. Add water...1/3 cup at a time. Knead lightly with hands. Divide dough into 1/4's and form a small ball. Dust with flour on all sides and roll out on flowered pastry cloth. If it's too sticky, keep adding flour and reroll. Makes 4 single cursts. Can be frozen.

We used store bought crust. If you are feeling ambitious go for the homemade crust.

Filling
fill shell with sliced apples and:
1c. sugar 1tsp. vanilla
3tbs. flour sprinkle with cinnamon
dot with butter

Prick top crust and sprinkle with sugar.

Bake 425 degrees for 15 mins. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake for 45 mins. or until crust is brown and apples are bubbling.

Enjoy!
